Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, uses your body's natural healing processes to your advantage. By using the platelet-rich plasma found within your own blood, our medical professionals can stimulate the growth of collagen and elastin, leaving skin looking firmer, younger, and healthier.

Advanced Aesthetics offers platelet-rich plasma as a facial treatment for rejuvenating skin and aiding in the healing process for scars and wrinkles. Platelet-rich plasma injections are a great choice if you are concerned about using fillers for your face. Since the platelet-rich plasma comes from your own blood, there’s no chance your body will reject or react to it.

How Does Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment Work?

Before beginning treatment, our medical professional will thoroughly explain the process to ensure that you are comfortable. They will apply a topical numbing agent to the area where the PRP will be injected and possibly to the place where the blood will be drawn from.

One to two ounces of blood will be drawn for your treatment, and this will be placed in a centrifuge. Over the course of about 15-30 minutes, this centrifuge will separate the platelet-rich plasma from the rest of the blood. This platelet-rich plasma is what will then be reinjected or applied directly into your face to jumpstart the production of collagen.

You will notice that your face will feel plump and appear red due to the injections. This will likely last one to two days. Be extra careful to protect your face with sunscreen, but covering the redness with makeup is not recommended.

How Long Does Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment Last?

You might immediately notice smoother, plumper skin, due to the injections or topical application post laser procedure, but it will take 2 to 3 weeks for optimal results. After that, your brighter, fuller, healthier skin can last for up to a year.

Are There Risks Involved in the Platelet-Rich Plasma Treatment?

The platelet-rich plasma already came from your own body, so there’s no risk that your body will reject it. There is a chance that you will experience slight bruising from where the blood was drawn and possibly reinjected, but this should clear up within a few days.

Are Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections Right For Me?

If you are concerned about acne scars, wrinkles, signs of aging, or dull skin on your face, platelet-rich plasma may be just the thing you need to rejuvenate your skin and your self-confidence. If you would like to discuss your specific treatment, one of our medical professionals would be happy to schedule a consultation with you.

PRP (platelet-rich plasma) is an injection treatment whereby a person’s own blood is used. A small amount of blood (20cc-60cc) is drawn up from the individual patient into a syringe. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge in order to separate all the blood components (red blood cells, PRP, plasma, etc). The PRP is then extracted from the remaining blood components in order to be used for treatment. PRP can be injected directly into tissue to provide a multitude of benefits including:

  • Improved skin texture
  • Minimized fine lines and wrinkles
  • Increased volume
  • Diminished appearance of scars
  • Hair restoration

When PRP is introduced into the tissue, it causes a mild inflammation that triggers the skin's natural healing response. The platelets release a number of enzymes to promote healing and tissue responses including attracting stem cells to repair damaged tissue. As a result, new collagen begins to develop. As the collagen matures it begins to shrink causing tightening and strengthening of the skin.
