What is the Tattoo Removal Process?
Advanced Aesthetics uses the Candela PicoWay laser from Candela, one of the latest advancements in tattoo removal technology. The laser sends a pulse into your skin which breaks up the ink or pigmentation and allows your white blood cells to remove it naturally from your body. Immediately following this process, your skin will have a frosty appearance, but this disappears quickly. Over the days following each appointment, you will notice the colors continuing to fade.
No matter what type of tattoo or pigmentation is being removed, the process will require multiple visits. Although, the size, location, age, and color of the tattoo will determine how many visits. Our medical professionals will be able to advise you personally on how many treatments will be needed and how long each visit will take.
At this time, we are only able to treat professional-grade tattoos. The Candela PicoWay laser is not approved for treating non-professional tattoos and unknown ink as they may not react well with the laser.
Is Tattoo Removal Treatment Painful?
The Candela PicoWay laser allows us to provide treatment that is much less painful and invasive than other tattoo removal methods, requiring a much shorter recovery time. Most patients do not require pain management, but the amount of discomfort experienced will depend on your pain threshold. The process is often described as similar to having a rubber band snap against the skin. However, the discomfort fades quickly, making it a very easy process and definitely worth it for those with unwanted tattoos.
How Much Does Tattoo Removal Cost?
Prices for tattoo removal start at $100 per square inch. The overall cost will depend on the size of the tattoo.
How Long Will My Tattoo Removal Take?
The length of each tattoo removal treatment depends on how large the tattoo is and how many colors it contains. However, the process is fairly quick, even for large tattoos.
Overall, most patients require at least 6 -8 treatments to achieve full results, spaced every 6-8 weeks apart. The number of total treatments required will depend on several factors:
Color - Surprisingly, the lighter the tattoo, the longer it can take to go away. This means that tattoos with light blue, green, red, and orange will generally take longer and require more treatments than tattoos that are dark blue or black.
Age - Since tattoos fade naturally over time, you can expect older tattoos to disappear faster, requiring fewer visits, while newer tattoos will be more stubborn and will require extra treatments.
Location - Lastly, the tattoo’s location on the body will affect how long it will take to disappear, as our process relies on the body’s immune system flushing out the ink particles. The closer the tattoo is to the heart, the faster it will go away. Therefore, tattoos on the hands, fingers, legs, feet, and toes will generally require more treatments.
Who is Not a Candidate for Tattoo Removal?
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tattoo removal isn’t the best decision for you right now.
- If you have an open wound or sunburn on or around the tattoo you want removed, make sure that heals before scheduling your treatment.
If you are unsure about the process or have any questions about your eligibility, our medical professionals will be happy to discuss the process with you and set your mind at ease.
